OSHA Safety Training

a place of employment free from recognized hazards that cause or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employee

This 10-hour program is intended to provide a variety of general  industry safety and health training to entry-level workers. This course  is designed to be presented to workers, therefore it must emphasize  hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. There are six  mandatory topics to be covered in not less than one hour per topic  including: 1) Introduction to OSHA, 2) Walking and working surfaces, 3)  Exit routes, emergency action plans, fire prevention plans, and fire  protection, 4) Electrical, 5) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), 6)  Hazard Communication.

There are also optional topics including:  hazardous materials, material handling, machine guarding, introduction  to industrial hygiene, blood borne pathogens, ergonomics, fall  protection, safety and health programs.

Students that complete the 10-hour General Industry course will receive an OSHA Student Course Completion Card.

The 30-hour program is intended to provide a variety of training to  people with some safety and supervisory responsibilities. Therefore  regulatory requirements will be addressed along with hazard  identification, avoidance, control and prevention. Required course  topics will include: Introduction to OSHA (2 hrs); Walking and Working  Surfaces (Subpart D, 1hour); Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plan, Fire  Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection (Subparts E & L – at least  2-hours); Electrical (Subpart S – at least 2-hours); Personal Protective  Equipment PPE (Subpart I – at least 1-hour) Material Handling (Subpart N  – at least 2-hours); Hazard Communication (Subpart Z – at least  1-hour).

The course must also include at least five of the  following topics: Hazardous Materials (Subpart H), Permit-Required  Confined Spaces (Subpart J); Lockout/Tagout (Subpart J); Machine  Guarding (Subpart O); Welding, Cutting, and Brazing (Subpart Q);  Introduction to Industrial Hygiene (Subpart Z); Blood borne Pathogens  (Subpart Z); Ergonomics; Fall Protection; Safety and Health Programs;  Powered Industrial Vehicles.

Students that complete the 30-hour General Industry course will receive an OSHA Student Course Completion Card.

The 10-Hour Construction Industry Standard program is intended to  provide a variety of training on construction safety and health to  entry-level workers. The 10-hour classes are designed to be presented to  workers, therefore they must emphasize hazard identification,  avoidance, control and prevention.

Students that complete the 10-hour Construction Industry course will receive an OSHA Student Course Completion Card.

Three hours of the following topics are mandatory: 

• Introduction to OSHA; OSHA Act General Duty Clause 5(a)(1); General Safety and Health Provisions, Competent Person Subpart C; Record Keeping (CFR Part 1904)
• Electrical, Subpart K
• Fall Protection, Subpart M

Three hours must be chosen from the optional topic list provided:

• Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment, Subpart E
• Materials Handling, Storage, Use and Disposal, Subpart H
• Tools, Hand and power, Subpart I
• Scaffolds, Subpart L
• Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, and Conveyors, Subpart N
• Stairways and Ladders, Subpart X
• Excavations, Subpart P

The 30-hour program is intended to provide a variety of training to  people with some safety responsibility. Of the topics listed below, six  hours are mandatory and fourteen hours must be chosen from the optional  topic list provided.

Students that complete the 30-hour Construction Industry course will receive an OSHA Student Course Completion Card.

REQUIRED COUSE TOPICS

Introduction to OSHA Standards - at least Two Hours

• OSHA Act/General Duty Clause 5 (a) (1)
• 29 CFR 1904, Recordkeeping
• Subpart C:  General Safety and Health Provisions, Competent Person
• STD 3-1.1, "Clarification of Citation Policy Regarding 29 CFR 1926.20, 29 CFR 
• 1926.21 and Related General Safety and Health Provisions"; Safety Programs

Electrical, Subpart K - at least Two Hours  
Fall Protection, Subpart M - at least Two Hours  

The course must also include at least 6 of the following topics and must add up to at least 14 hours:

• Occupational Health and Environmental Controls (emphasis on Hazard Communication),Subpart D
• Health Hazards in Construction, Subpart D
• Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment, Subpart E
• Fire Protection and Prevention, Subpart F
• Materials Handling, Storage, Use and Disposal, Subpart H

• Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, and Conveyors, Subpart N
• Motor Vehicles, Mechanized Equipment and Marine  Operations; Rollover Protective Structures and Overhead Protection; and  Signs, Signals and Barricades, Subparts O, W and G
• Excavations, Subpart P
• Concrete and Masonry Construction, Subpart Q
• Steel Erection, Subpart R
• Stairways and Ladders, Subpart X
• Confined Space Entry
